Are special lancets required for theWaveSense, KeyNote™ lancing device?

WaveSense, KeyNote™ lancing devices only work with the WaveSense, KeyNote™ 28G or 33G (ultra-fine) lancets or equivalent.

Are special test strips needed for the WaveSense, KeyNote™ system?

WaveSense, KeyNote™ test strips only work with WaveSense, KeyNote™ Blood Glucose Meters.

Do I need a prescription for the WaveSense, KeyNote™ system?

No, a prescription is not required for the WaveSense™, KeyNote™ system.

How do I know if I have applied enough blood to the strip?

The WaveSense, KeyNote™ Test Strip acts like a sponge and draws the blood into the test strip through the sample area. The visual fill window of the WaveSense, KeyNote™ Test Strip will turn red.

How do I replace the batteries in my WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

(1) Make sure the meter is powered OFF.

(2) Turn the meter so you are looking at the battery door.

(3) Press the battery door clip to open.

(4) Remove the battery door. Be careful not to misplace the battery door.

(5) To remove the used batteries, use a non-metallic tool at point A (see Owner’s Guide for more details) to pop each battery out.

(6) Install the new batteries with the positive (+) sign facing up towards you.

(7) Angle the battery door back onto the meter and swing down until it snaps gently into place. Make sure that the battery door is completely closed before using.

How do I set the Date on my WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

(1) When your meter is OFF, press and hold any button for 2 seconds to enter the MENU mode where the MEM symbol will appear.

(2) Enter SET Option by pressing the LEFT or RIGHT arrow button until the SET symbol is displayed. Press the CENTER button.

(3) Press CENTER repeatedly until you see a screen with the month (flashing), you are ready to set the meter’s date.

(4) Set the month (flashing) with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and continue on to the day setting.

(5) Set the day (flashing) with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and move onto year setting.

(6) Set the year (flashing) with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and move onto Hypoglycemic Warning.

How do I set the Time on my WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

(1) When your meter is OFF, press and hold any button for 2 seconds to enter the MENU mode where the MEM symbol will appear.

(2) Enter SET Option by pressing the LEFT or RIGHT arrow button until the SET symbol is displayed. Press the CENTER button.

(3) Press CENTER repeatedly until you see a screen with the message 12H or 24H, you are ready to set the meter’s time.

(4) Select a 12 or 24 hour clock format with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. The 12 hour clock display option is indicated by a 12H. The 24 hour clock display option is indicated by a 24H. Your selection will be highlighted by the blinking of the symbol. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and move on to the hour setting.

(5) Set the hour (flashing) with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and move onto the minute setting.

(6) Set the minute (flashing) with the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons. Press the CENTER button to confirm your selection and move onto the date setting.

How long does it take the WaveSense, KeyNote™ system to analyze blood glucose results?

Readings will be displayed as fast as 1-2-3™

How should I apply a drop of blood to the test strip?

(1) Wipe away the first blood drop that appears using a clean tissue or paper towel.

(2) Squeeze from the base of your finger up towards the tip, until a second small blood drop forms. Do not squeeze directly around the lanced area.

(3) Be sure not to press the LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons while applying blood. You might change the calibration code number accidentally.

(4) The meter now displays the blood drop and test strip symbols. This means your WaveSense KeyNote™ System is now ready for you to apply blood. Immediately bring the WaveSense KeyNote ™Test Strip to the blood sample.

(5) The test strip fills from the tip. Do not try to smear blood on the top surface. The WaveSense KeyNote™ Test Strip acts like a sponge and draws the blood into the test strip through the sample area. The visual window of the WaveSense KeyNote ™Test Strip will turn red.

How should I produce a drop of blood for testing?

(1) Warm fingers by washing with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry completely. Warm fingers increase blood flow.

(2) Let your arm hang down at your side briefly to increase blood flow to fingertips.

(3) Wipe away the first blood drop that appears using a clean tissue or paper towel.

(4) Squeeze from the base of your finger up towards the tip, until a second small blood drop forms. Do not squeeze directly around the lanced area.

How will I make sure that I’ve inserted the diabetes test strip correctly?

• The meter will Power ON

• During the meter system check, all display segments and the display backlight will turn ON.

• The meter displays a pre-set test strip code number for 2 seconds

• The meter now displays the blinking blood drop and test strip symbols, indicating it is ready to run a test.

I want to calibrate my system, how do I go about changing the code number to my WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

(1) Gently insert a new WaveSense™ Test Strip into the meter. Make sure you insert the test strip, with the contact bars facing up, into the strip port. The meter will power ON automatically.

(2) Adjusting Code Number: The meter will display a pre-set test strip code number for 2 seconds. If this is not same number as the code number printed on the test strip vial, press the LEFT or RIGHT buttons until the meter displays the same code number as printed on the test strip vial.

Is a special control solution needed for the WaveSense, KeyNote™ system?

WaveSense, KeyNote™ control solution only works with WaveSense, KeyNote™ Blood Glucose Meters.

Is there a way for me to do data management on my pc if I use a WaveSense, KeyNote™ system?

• Yes, the meter has a data port that enables you to download your blood glucose test results to a PC using the Zero-Click™ Blood Glucose Data Management system.

Is there a way to erase test results from the memory of the WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

It is not possible to erase or delete test results stored in the memory of the meter, as these results are important to health care professional in evaluation and treatment. The test results will eventually "roll out" of the memory, in the order that they were entered, once the meter has reached its capacity of 300 readings.

Often should I clean my blood glucose meter, and how do I do it?

• When using your meter, avoid getting dirt, dust, blood, control solution, water or any other liquid into the strip port.  Clean the outside of the meter or the lancing device using a cloth dampened with mild detergent or mild soap.

What could be the results if I use expired test strips?

• You may receive an error code of ER3.

• You may receive an inaccurate reading.

What is the number of alarms available in the WaveSense, KeyNote™ meter?

There are 6 alarms you can set to remind you when to test your blood glucose.

What size and style of batteries does the WaveSense, KeyNote™ use?

Only use CR2032 batteries.

CAUTION: When the battery symbol appears, you should replace the batteries immediately.

When are good times for me to run a glucose control test?

It should be done when you:

• First get your WaveSense, KeyNote™ Meter

• Begin using a new vial of WaveSense, KeyNote™ Meter Test Strips.

• Suspect that your WaveSense, KeyNote™ Meter or Test Strips are not working properly. • Think your test results are not accurate.

• Have dropped or damaged your meter or exposed your meter to liquids other than the blood samples.

• Are advised by your physician to do so.

• It is done to ensure that the WaveSense, KeyNote™ Meter and Test Strips are working together properly and for practice testing without having to use your own blood.

Why is a glucose control test done?

It is done to ensure that the WaveSense, KeyNote™ Meter and Test Strips are working together properly and for practice testing without having to use your own blood.

NOTE: A Control solution test is not a target range for your blood glucose levels.
